NEWPORT County AFC are weighing up moves for strikers Aaron Amadi-Holloway and Jacob Cleaver who both played in today's 4-1 friendly defeat to Cheltenham Town reserves.

Cleaver, who was on trial with Championship club AFC Bournemouth last summer, scored the Exiles’ only goal after coming off the bench.

Holloway is a former Wales under-17 and under-19 international who was released by Bristol City on Friday.

He started up front at Cheltenham’s training ground with Christian Jolley and Joe Parker either side of him in a 4-3-3 formation.

Jamie Stephens returned from his hamstring injury for 45 minutes in goal and Andrew Hughes was also back in defence alongside player-coach Tony James and Academy youngsters Joe Ward and Jesse Victory.

In midfield County, led by coach Wayne Hatswell but with manager Justin Edinburgh and assistant Jimmy Dack watching on, started with Adam Chapman, Ryan Burge and Mike Flynn.

The Robins reserve side was a mix of experience and youthful talent, including former County loan star Sam Deering.

The game started out on an even footing, although Cheltenham had the better of the early chances, and the hosts took the lead on 29 minutes through Ashley Vincent.

A ball struck forward into the path of Vincent was brought down well by the winger and his poked effort found its way past Stephens in goal before trickling over the line for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Cleaver, on for Burge at half-time, stabbed home an equaliser on 55 minutes after good work from Jolley on the left wing.

But Joe Hanks slid in to push the ball into the back of the net for 2-1 almost immediately and further goals from Vincent and substitute Adam Powell sealed the win for the hosts.
