NEW Glamorgan chief Hugh Morris is aiming to replicate his successful partnership with England coach Andy Flower when he joins forces with Toby Radford at the Swalec Stadium.

The county's ex-captain and opener has returned to Cardiff as chief executive and director of cricket.

The 50-year-old headed home after 17 years with the England and Wales Cricket board, where he most recently worked as managing director.

The Ashes may have been lost in humiliating fashion but it was a hugely successful spell for Morris, who took charge of the international teams after the previous whitewash in Australia in 2006/7.

And he hopes that alongside new head coach Radford, who has taken over from Matthew Mott, there are bright times ahead for Glamorgan.

"The roles aren't dissimilar to the ones that Andy Flower and I had. I am planning budgets and making sure people are in the right roles while Toby is preparing players to win games of cricket.

"I am in the office while he is in the tracksuite; it's a relationship that worked well with Andy and I hope it does here."

Glamorgan are looking to end a 10-year wait for silverware but came close when beaten in the final of the Yorkshire Bank 40 by Nottinghamshire.

Morris led the county to the Sunday League title in 1993 and was part of the side that triumphed in the 1997 County Championship.

He believes that coming close to glory at the end of last season can help the current crop earn an addition to the Swalec Stadium trophy cabinet.

"It was great to see Glamorgan in a Lord's final and that will have given the players a huge amount of confidence," he said.

"We have a good blend of experience and talented youngsters and with a squad of 19 professionals there will be plenty of opportunities for the younger guys."

Morris has confirmed that there will be no second overseas player alongside South African batsman Jacques Rudolph while details are being confirmed to bring in former captain and coach Matthew Maynard on a consultancy basis.

The captaincy will be confirmed soon with wicket-keeper Mark Wallace likely to continue the role in the four-day format.
