NEWPORT Gwent Dragons’ back row forward Ieuan Jones has signed a deal to move to Cardiff Blues next season, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Argus revealed last week that the Arms Park outfit were eyeing the out-of-contract former Wales Under-20s prospect.

Jones has found chances hard to come by at Rodney Parade behind Wales and Lions star Toby Faletau and Fiji international Netani Talei.

Thursday’s Amlin Challenge Cup clash in Mogliano will be just his fourth start of the season so he has opted to move to the capital to get more game time.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity at Blues and becoming part of an exciting and talent squad at the Arms Park," he said.

"I would like to thank everyone at Dragons for their support and I will be giving my all for the region for the rest of this season before I make the switch to Blues."

The 20-year-old from Aberbargoed is a welcome addition for the Blues, who will lose Robin Copeland to Munster and Andries Pretorius to Worcester next season.

Director of rugby Phil Davies said: "He is a strong young number eight and big ball carrier who will add both talent and depth to our squad as we look to next year and beyond.

"Ieuan has massive potential for us and so we are excited to have him join the Blues from next season."
