County v Dagenham: Match postponed

NEWPORT’S clash with Dagenham and Redbridge today has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Overnight rain and the prospect of more to come, coupled with standing water on the playing surface, led to the referee making an early decision today, after a preliminary inspection on Friday evening.

Both managers, County’s Justin Edinburgh and Dagenham’s Mark Burnett, were in attendance for the inspection and supported the decision of the referee.

Rodney Parade's head groundsman Mark Jones tweeted: "Both managers and the ref agree that pitch is waterlogged and unfortunately today's game is off."

Newport defender Tony James tweeted: "Another game off. #playingcatchup."

It is 9-40 am on Saturday. Glad I checked out this website. As usual the County website is very late and has still not yet posted the ref's decision to postpone today's match, announced at 9-00am. Just great fellahs! Great communication.
Well done the Argus!

These regular postponements (three if not mistaken) due to waterlogged pitch may prove fatal for County as the fixtures would now necessarily be sandwiched and might, therefore, pay a toll on our players' physical (muscular) fitness.

The sun is shining in Risca.
No where near as much rain as before the Northampton match.
No mention of any efforts to get the match on as there was before Northampton.
Total joke
Result for me though as Baby Sitting the grandkids all day.
Terrible for all those looking forward to 3 points.
Come on grounds man get some gear in to sort it out or was Northampton a 1 off to keep us all happy?

i cannot say anymore than i v said in the past but i would seriously ask the question , if it has not already been asked , WHY WERENT THE DRAINAGE WORKS FINISHED LAST SUMMER as they had almost 4 month to do it in ! anyhow , more momentum lost, dropping a bit further behind the play off places, 3rd match to rearrange, not really acceptable is it?

They don't play in Risca, they play in Newport where the weather has been dreadful, it's flooded down by Home Bargains in Pill, it was torrential in the early hours and we have had quite a bit more since dawn.

The weather is no worse than before the Northampton game.
Couple of mile up the road and the weather is different?
Wonder how many other fixtures will be off today?

Must admit you are getting more than your fair share of rain down there. I phone my cousin over at bishpool and all I hear is its raining again. Its all very frustrating I know but there's not a lot we can do about it. Pity they could'nt fix the problem during the summer, so lets hope they can finish it over this summer ready for our games in the 1st division. Think positive and start to build an ark.

Like I said above they got the Northampton game on whether it was worse or the same.
I actually live in Rogerstone and the sun was shining when I put the thread above on this morning.
I am happy that I will see the re arranged fixture but its still a joke that they didn't make every effort to get the game on.
Its raining everywhere so why isn't the full league programme postponed?
You could end up with the next half dozen games all postponed if the weather doesn't buck up. Make every effort and if that fails fair enough.

You really have no idea how much work the ground staff do over RP. I have been there on many occasions and they have been working their socks off trying to get it playable, it is not their fault it is the unfinished drainage work at the north end which is the problem.

Difference was the northampton game was forecast dry on the day and was so but for the Dagenham game the forecast was heavy rain on the day which proved right, haven't you got any windows in your house then?

Correct me if I'm wrong ( a redundant comment if ever I've made one !!) but don't County tend to play better on sounder surfaces ? I know it's a pain with fixture congestion and all the ramifications that brings, but I'd rather get over the bad weather (hopefully) and not see County involved in skill-free lotteries.
Also a good break doesn't do the players any harm as it freshens up tired legs and gives us a chance to get over some of our injuries. Look on the positive side everyone.

Make every effort and if that fails fair enough.[/p]
Difference was the northampton game was forecast dry on the day and was so but for the Dagenham game the forecast was heavy rain on the day which proved right, haven't you got any windows in your house then?[/p]
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Your last comment is pathetic, just keep your sarcastic comments to yourself. As regards the postponements couple down in Devon where the weather was I believe far worse. Plus 1 other. Like I say we are all entitled to an opinion as someone who has supported the County since my first match in 1956 I think I am entitled to one!![/p]
You must if been on holiday somewhere warm last week because it poured down all week, there was torrential rain and flooding in the city centre on Friday night,it did stop for a couple of hours Saturday morning when the Game was called off but was tipping down again by dinner time, what possible reason other than a waterlogged pitch do you imagine it was called off for then? Maybe they wanted to make sure the rugby was on in a weeks time,as for your ponpous reply, get a life.[/p]
Sorry for my pompous reply. Whats that all about? Get a life Whats that all about? Again apologies as you are the only person with an opinion. Lets leave everything to you in the future as dare anyone have a different opinion to you. Anyway will have the chance to see the lads when the weather brightens up. Happy days!![/p]
Keep giving yourself thumbs up and myself thumbs down, how sad. DDDog1
