WALES netball coach Melissa Hyndman was left "bitterly disappointed" by a 44-35 defeat to England A this week.

The match at Wembley Arena saw Wales, who included Pontllanfraith’s Cara Lea Moseley, start their build up to this summer's Commonwealth Games.

But despite an encouraging start to the match, the signs are not good for Glasgow 2014 according to Hyndman.

"The defence in the first quarter was fine but they just never stepped up at all and I'm bitterly disappointed in that performance," she said.

"Although we won that last quarter it means nothing to me."

A mixed first quarter saw handling errors from both teams but England had the better of it, winning 12 goals to six.

Hyndman inserted Chelsea Lewis to goal shooter (GS) for Rebecca James at the quarter-time break, and Lewis looked comfortable slotting goal after goal with ease but the connections were missing from Wales' through-court attack and they couldn't get the ball into the shooters often enough.

England A moved into a 10-goal advantage at half time and Wales used a different combination for the second half of the game.

Experienced mid courter Sara Bayman moved to centre (C), while Jodie Gibson moved to wing defence (WD), Lindsay Keable up to goal defence (GD), with new player Summer Artman given a chance at goal keeper (GK).

Artman showed agility and energy in her attempt to disrupt the movement of Lewis in the circle, and a beautiful intercept from partner Keable sent the ball quickly down the court to the English shooters.

But Wales couldn't find enough answers in the final quarter, despite winning it 14-9.
