CHAMPIONSHIP strugglers Blackwood will be attempting to "right a few wrongs" when they head north to take on RGC1404 tomorrow afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Glan-yr-Afon Park outfit are hard hit by injuries and unavailability for the trip to Colwyn Bay but are relishing the chance to lock horns with a side that thrashed them 56-10 when the sides met in September.

"It's a massive ask but the boys have a great chance to pitch themselves against a region and are looking forward to righting a few wrongs," said head coach Matthew Veater.

"RGC destroyed us earlier in the season and are really good at what they do – it's a simple gameplan but an effective one."

Blackwood are in desperate need of points as they scramble to retain their Championship status with Bonymaen the only side beneath them in the table and two clubs dropping down.

"Our boys can't bury their heads in the sand," said Veater. "Perhaps they have been afraid to look at the table but it's a man's game and we need to realise we are in a relegation fight. It's on us to pull ourselves out of this."

Newbridge are not clear of danger just yet after being pegged back by Beddau at the Welfare Ground last weekend in a 17-17 draw.

Eighth-placed 'Bridge go on their travels to fellow mid-table side Bridgend Athletic, who they beat 38-20 earlier in the season.

Pontypool will do their Gwent rivals a favour, as well as boosting their hopes of finishing second, if they can triumph at bottom club Bonymaen.

Leaders Ebbw Vale will boast a new signing in their ranks as they continue their countdown to the title against Cardiff Met, who are sixth but have games in hand and are in the mix for being runners-up.

The Steelmen have signed number eight Lewis Young, son former Wales prop and London Wasps boss Dai, from Championship rivals Llanharan.

"He's a very strong player with a huge amount of potential and will add strength and depth to our back row options," said head coach Jason Strange.
