NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh insists that his side is just one win away from getting their promotion push back on track.

Edinburgh and his players are on the road again today as they head to Southend United for tonight’s League Two clash at Roots Hall – their fifth away game in six fixtures.

The Exiles boss admits that his side have lost momentum with four home games postponed since December 21 but he is certain that they can turn things round and challenge for a play-off place.

“It’s been a pretty testing time for us of late,” said Edinburgh, whose side lie eighth in the table – eight points off the play-off places with two games in hand.

“Leading up to December we had momentum. We were winning football matches and unfortunately we’ve played one home game since December 1.

“So we’ve lost momentum, there’s no doubt about that. But we’ve got to get ourselves focused and get a win.

“Four of our next five will be at home and hopefully we can get a run going.

“We know the gap is growing but we can only concentrate on ourselves.”

Sixth-placed Southend are unbeaten at home in the league since October but Edinburgh has great belief in his side’s ability to bounce back.

“Out of 15 away games this year we’ve only lost five so we’ve been pretty good on the road,” he said.

“We’ve been unfortunate sometimes not to pick up more points but it is certainly a tougher league and we will have to be at our best if we’re to get that fourth away win.

“We had the postponement on Tuesday so I went to see Southend against Dagenham, which was a really good game.

“They’re scoring goals and they’ve got a lot of good strikers so we’ve certainly got to be a bit more resolute at the back and cut out individual errors.

“They’re playing well but we beat them at home and we take confidence from that and hopefully we can go and rediscover (the habit of) winning football matches.

“It’s going to be a tough test but we’re confident we can get a result.”

Adam Chapman returns from suspension for the Exiles and new signing Shaun Jeffers is in contention to start up front following Conor Washington’s departure.

But fellow striker Danny Crow and defender Ismail Yakubu are unlikely to be fit to face the Shrimpers.
