A QUARTET of former AFC Wimbledon stars are all relishing facing their old club today with Newport County AFC but Robbie Willmott is already looking ahead to next season and facing Luton Town once again.

Christian Jolley, Max Porter, Lee Minshull and Ryan Jackson will all be aiming to make an impact against the Dons this afternoon.

But, with League Two safety pretty much assured for the Exiles, Willmott is looking forward to facing Luton next season after they ended their five-year exodus from the Football League this week.

And Willmott is delighted for his former club despite some heated exchanges with Hatters fans online and at Kenilworth Road last season.

“I’m very pleased for them and I’m proud to have played for them because it’s such a big club,” said Willmott.

“It’s a good club to have on your CV. I almost got promoted with them and I’m happy for the lads I played with and the fans. They deserve it.

“It’ll be good to face them again next year. I got some stick down there last season but you expect that from some fans when you leave a club.”

Exiles boss Justin Edinburgh is also happy to be facing the Hatters again next season.

“I’m pleased for them and for John Still,” he said. “I think John’s done a great job there.

“That’s the third time he’s got promotion from the Conference so fair play to him and I look forward to facing them in the Football League next year.

“It will be a good test and it’s good for the revenue for another well-supported club come up.

“You always want the big clubs in the Football League.”

Willmott watched from the bench last week as County beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 at Rodney Parade and he admits that he needed a rest after a tough campaign.

“I want to play every game and I felt I was playing consistently well but I let my performances slip a little bit over the past couple of weeks,” he said.

“I thought I was going to get pulled out sooner but the gaffer stuck with me, which was nice.

“I felt I did need a rest though and it was nice to be able to watch the game last week and I thought the lads performed very well.

“I think unless Northampton and Torquay win every game and we drop points we’re safe now so hopefully we can just enjoy the last four games.”
