NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh has reached a decision on who he wants to keep and who he wants to release from his playing squad this summer, writes Michael Pearlman.

The former Spurs defender has made clear that the clock has ticked for anyone hoping to make an impression with his players out of contract this summer set to learn their fates early next week.

David Pipe has already left the club with Edinburgh confirming Harry Worley will also depart, while Kevin Feely and Tom Naylor will return to their parent clubs from loan spells.

And having re-iterated in his press day yesterday that he intends to sign “six or seven,” new players in the coming weeks, Edinburgh is content that his verdicts will be final on his current personnel.

The manager refused to confirm either way whether Mike Flynn has a future at the club, having announced previously he’d be one of the players leaving.

Edinburgh sat for 20 minutes with the media and made abundantly clear that he’s incredibly positive about the potential for improving his squad.

“We’ve got discussions to have with all the players out of contract including Michael Flynn,” he said.

“Once each individual knows where they are at for the forthcoming season, we will inform the media and Flynny has told me many times he wants to stay next season, don’t worry about that, his performances have given me food for thought.

“But Saturday will be too late for anyone to change my mind, it’s been made up and to decide any future on one game would be misguided and misleading and make me a fool.

“I’m fully clear in my mind who I want to remain and who will leave.

“I’ve started to speak to the ones I want to remain at the club, we’ve got a few who go back from loan, David Pipe has left and one or two others will.

“I expect to get it all wrapped up by next week, if the player wants to stay we’ll make him the best offer we can, we won’t mess about, that’s not the way we work.

“And then we’ll look to bring in new players we feel can improve us, we have a board meeting to decide on the budget for next season and we are looking in to bring in six or seven, I don’t think we need more than that.”
