CWMBRAN archer Dave Phillips is representing Great Britain at the Para Grand Prix in the Czech Republic this week.

The 48-year-old from Llantarnam Archery Club is part of an eleven-strong team at the event that runs until Sunday.

The tournament is a Para Archery world ranking event, meaning that a points system will determine the position of athletes from across the world in their particular discipline.

Phillips, who has multiple sclerosis, has only recently gone through the classification process for the Paralympic Podium Potential squad and will be hoping to shine in the recurve discipline alongside a number of seasoned campaigners.

He has headed to the Czech Republic in good form after being crowned champion at the UK Recurve Masters in Lilleshall at the start of the month.

Michael Peart, paralympic coach at Archery GB, said: "We have got a very strong team for the Para Grand Prix and other para tournaments this year.

"There is a huge amount of medal potential in the squad, from our experienced paralympians as well as younger athletes coming up through our Performance Academies.

"The team are working well together to help each other improve their shooting and the athletes can't wait to compete."

Qualification takes place over the next two days before the individual elimination on Friday, team elimination on Saturday and individual finals on Sunday.

The same team will compete at the Para European Championships in Nottwill, Switzerland at the end of July and have been given the target of three to five medals by UK Sport.
