NEWPORT judoka Mark Shaw says he can retire a happy man after claiming an unexpected bronze medal at Glasgow 2014.

The 35-year-old, who serves as a lieutenant commander in the British Royal Navy, beat New Zealand's Sam Rosser in the men's judo +100kg bronze medal contest.

"I have got a lot of injuries that I am hiding and protecting," he said. "I am retiring now, I can go and put my feet up. This is my Olympics.

"It's the pinnacle of my career. I missed opportunities earlier on because I was focusing on my career and the navy. This is the swansong for me."
