CWMBRAN archer Dave Phillips has added more medals to his ever-growing haul after a successful trip to Switzerland for the European Para-Archery Championships.

The Llantarnam Archery Club member claimed gold in the men's recurve and bronze in the mixed recurve in Nottwil, helping Great Britain finish second in the medal table with a total of nine.

Phillips, Simon Powell and Paul Browne breezed through their qualifying matches against Georgia and Russia 6-0 and then defeated a strong Russian team 6-2 in the gold medal match.

He then joined forces with Hazel Chaisty to win bronze medal in a challenging match against France 5-4 after beating the Czech Republic 5-4 and Italy 5-3, their only loss coming against eventual winners Poland.

Sara Symington, performance director of Archery GB, said: "We are extremely proud of all the athletes and staff that turned every opportunity into a medal.

"We are now one of the top European archery teams and the archers can't wait to prove themselves on the world stage at the 2015 World Championships in Germany, where we will be looking to qualify maximum quota places for the 2016 Paralympics."

Phillips has also been selected by Archery GB to perform in a mixed doubles exhibition match at the National Series Final in Nottingham on Saturday, August 30.

The event at Wollaton Hall will be run in the same format as the Olympics. Entry is free with action starting at 10am and finishing around 4pm.
