NEWPORT Gwent Dragons may be struggling for numbers in the backs but their forwards appear to be in good shape ahead of tomorrow's Guinness Pro12 clash with Glasgow (kick-off 2.40pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

The region's pack have made a bright start against Connacht and the Ospreys, putting in a pair of promising performances at the set piece.

The eight-day turnaround from their 17-15 derby defeat to the Warriors clash enabled the forwards to head over the Severn Bridge on Tuesday to lock horns with Bath.

The Aviva Premiership side, who punished them up front in the Amlin Challenge Cup last season, hosted the Dragons at their plush Farleigh House headquarters.

"It that was fantastic for us and we came out of it really positively," said head coach Kingsley Jones.

"We defended the drives well, drove well ourselves and the scrums were good. The forwards feel that they are making progress.

"Bath had plenty of success with their drive against London Welsh last weekend and we had parity against the likes of David Wilson, Paul James and some really big guys.

"I've watched it back a fair few times! It was a good training performance and an excellent thing to do for us. It was a really good half-day out and both groups took a lot from it."

- The Dragons' LV= Cup fixtures have been reshuffled to avoid a clash with their Guinness Pro12 encounter with Ulster.

The Rodney Parade region were initially pencilled in to host Exeter on the weekend of October 31 but that clashed with their league trip to Belfast.

They will now take on the Chiefs in round three at the end of January.

That was meant to be when they headed to the Ospreys but they will now take on their regional rivals on November 14/15/16, a spare Pro12 weekend.

Dragons' LV= fixtures: November 7/8/9 – Harlequins (a), November 14/15/16 – Ospreys (a), January 30/31/February 1 – Exeter (h), February 6/7/8 – London Welsh (h)
