NEWBRIDGE boxer Bradley Pryce is set to lodge an official complaint with the British Boxing Board of Control over the scoring of his controversial loss to Lee Markham on Saturday.

The former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion suffered the 17th defeat of his professional career when referee Bob Williams scored the contest 96-95 to Markham at London’s York Hall.

The controversial result saw Essex fighter Markham retain his British Masters Gold super-middleweight title.

But Pryce disagreed with the scorecard so much that he sought an explanation from the referee who refused to engage in a conversation.

After Pryce did return to the changing rooms, he was visited by Markham’s promoter Stephen Goodwin who said that he had scored the 33-year-old as the winner.

The 33-year-old told BoxingWales.com that he will appeal the decision and could now look to challenge St Joseph’s fighter Frankie Borg for his Welsh middleweight title.

Borg won the belt by upsetting hometown favourite Kerry Hope in Merthyr in March and has now got his licence back after a recent health scare.

“I was meant to fight in July but I got suspended the week before the fight because of medical reasons,” said the Cardiff boxer.

“I was devastated when the doctors pulled me out and I did think my career could be over but I’m healthy now and I’m ready to fight.

“I’m hoping I get two fights before Christmas – ideally defending the Welsh title again and then hopefully a Commonwealth title shot.”

Fellow St Joes fighter Craig Evans is also keen to get back in the ring after a quiet 2014.

The unbeaten Blackwood boxer has fought only once this year when he beat Frenchman Dame Seck on points in Liverpool in May.

Evans is scheduled to fight in London on November 24 and he doesn’t care who he faces as long as he returns to action after a frustrating year.

“I’ve only fought once this year so it has been a bit of a disappointing year for me,” said the 25-year-old.

“I hoped to get at least four fights a year but it’s taking a while to get me fights at the moment.

“I can’t wait for November 24. We’re not sure on the opponent yet, I’m waiting to find out, but I’ll fight anyone they put in front of me.

“Whoever they match me with I’ll fight – I’ve got no qualms about fighting anyone in Britain or Europe.”
