A GOLD medal may have eluded her once again but Newport sprint star Mica Moore enjoyed another successful weekend at the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Nationals in Sheffield.

After setting a new national record with the Wales 4x100m relay team at Glasgow 2014, the 22-year-old has started 2015 in fine form.

Moore won the Welsh Indoor Championships last month as well as posting a new 60m personal best of 7.50 seconds in claiming victory at the Cardiff Met Grand Prix two weeks earlier.

The BUCS weekend started with disappointment as she failed to match last year’s silver in the 60m, finishing fourth this time round in 7.59sec.

But, after recovering from a stomach complaint, Moore went on to claim bronze in the 200m with a time of 24.43sec and she then helped the Cardiff Met team pick up silver in the sprint relay.

The Birchfield Harrier athlete ran the fourth leg, taking the baton from Megan Rogers, Becca Chapman and Charlotte Wingfield.

Rhiannon Linington-Payne and Ellie Jones also won silver after running in the heat.

In between races, Moore hotfooted it down to Birmingham for the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, where she finished seventh in the 60m, and she insists her frantic weekend has left her in good shape for the upcoming outdoor season.

“It was quite a quick turnabout and it’s probably something I’m not used to but it happens at Championships,” said Moore.

“I really enjoy BUCS – it’s probably my favourite competition to do and I was really excited to run at the Grand Prix as well.

“I’ve really enjoyed my indoor season this year – I’ve had a PB, so it’s moving in the right direction.

“Indoors is a tricky one because it’s so short, anything can happen but it bodes well for the outdoors.

“Hopefully my outdoor time will come down a little bit as well. I just take it as it comes, see what happens.”
