SETH Nana Twumasi says he and his Newport County AFC teammates are concentrating on matters on the pitch after a huge week for the club off the field.

The County Supporters Trust revealed on Thursday night that they will need to raise £225,000 to take permanent control of the club from major shareholder and former chairman Les Scadding.

Manager Terry Butcher was at the meeting with fans at the Riverfront Theatre and captain Mark Byrne is amongst those who have signed up to the Trust and made a donation.

But Twumasi says the players’ main focus is on earning a first win of the season when they take on Plymouth Argyle at Home Park this afternoon.

“We’ve managed to put that to one side,” he said of the Trust takeover bid.

“Our job is to be on the pitch and to perform well for the club, four ourselves and for our families.

“We put that to the side and try to go out on the pitch every day in training and in the games and go out and get the win for ourselves and for the fans as well.

“If you look at our games I think we’ve been very unlucky so far; we conceded in the last minute against Stevenage and against Leyton Orient I thought we played very well.

“Hopefully we can put on a good performance at Plymouth as well as getting the first win.

“It will be a good game,” he added. “Plymouth is always a good team and the stadium is very nice.

“But it is two teams against each other on the day and whoever performs well will get the victory.

“I’m sure if we go out there and perform we will get the victory that we feel we deserve.

“We believe in our abilities and we believe in ourselves.

“If we can maintain the same performances and cut out a few little mistakes that have been costing us goals then we should be fine.”

Twumasi also says he is happy to be playing at left wing-back for the Exiles.

“I’m enjoying myself,” he said. “Every player wants to play as much as they can and as long as I’m on the pitch I’m happy.”
