ACADEMY graduates Tom Owen-Evans, Kieran Parselle and Liam Angel are all set to feature as Newport County AFC take on Notts County at Rodney Parade on Saturday.

Manager Warren Feeney says he wants to give the talented trio of youngsters a chance to show what they can do in League Two now that County are safe from relegation.

The Exiles boss says he will also give striker Tom Meechan an opportunity to play this weekend and for the final game of the season at AFC Wimbledon next week.

Defender Matt Partridge, who has not played since January because of injury, is also set to be involved with centre-backs Andrew Hughes and Darren Jones likely to be rested.

“Obviously the pressure is off now but we’ll still treat the game the exact same way,” said Feeney.

“We are professionals and we want to win the game but most of the hard work has been done.

“I’ve made it clear I will be making changes. It’s a chance for players to come in and get some minutes under their belt and let me see something.

“Tom Owen-Evans will definitely be involved and I’d like to get Kieran [Parselle] and Liam Angel involved.

“It’s a chance also for some of the ones who’ve been on the fringe as well. They’re all professionals and they all want to play football. They’re all chomping at the bit.

“I want to get as many people involved as I can. There’s no pressure on them and I want them to go and enjoy it.”

Striker Meechan was signed from non-league side St Neots Town in February but has so far made just two substitute appearances.

“I wouldn’t class Tom as young – he’s 25 – but he’ll definitely be involved as well and it’s a good chance for him to get some minutes,” said Feeney.

“I want to make as many changes as I can but I want to go and win the game and the team that I put out will be strong with lots of energy and it’s a good chance for them.”

On defender Partridge, Feeney said: “Matt got injured in my first game in charge at York and it’s been difficult for him.

“He’s a very good footballer and I think it is a chance now for Matty to go and play.

“He’s been wanting to play and he’s one that will play on Saturday.

“Hughesy’s got a bang on his knee and Jonesy has been struggling with his thigh for a while so I’ll probably leave them two out.

“Janoi Donacien is back from illness after blood tests and he’s definitely in contention.”

And the Exiles boss says there may be an opportunity for back-up goalkeeper Joe Green to add to his 60 seconds of competitive action over the next two weeks.

“There’s two games to go and whether Greeny plays Saturday or the last one I’m sure there is a possibility,” he added.

“There’ll be a few changes. I think it’s important to give players games.

“But the team I’ll put out I think will be very strong – we’ve been working on it since Monday and I’ve every confidence in the players who will be out there.”

One player who will not want to be rested is captain Mark Byrne, who has played every minute of every game this season.

“Byrney doesn’t want to be rested but I’m going to keep him guessing,” said Feeney.

“It’s fantastic what he does but at the end of the day it’s about this football club and Byrney knows that.

“He’s a great kid and there’s a possibility he will play and a possibility he won’t but I think it’s important to get other people in.”
