NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney will reveal who he wants to keep at Rodney Parade early next week.

Feeney has already started looking at new recruits and states that he wants “quality over quantity” as he looks to add to a the core of his current squad.

And, after Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon, the Exiles boss will let his players know who will be offered a new contract for next season and who will be released.

Currently only goalkeeper Joe Day, teenage defender Liam Angel and strikers Tom Meechan and Lenell John-Lewis are under contract for the 2016/2017 campaign.

“I’ll do it next week,” said Feeney. “We’ll get this game out the road and then look at that afterwards.

“Players will go, there’s no doubt about that, but I want to keep the core of the players and obviously add that little bit more.

“I’m looking for quality over quantity.

“People think you can just release players and get them in but you can’t,” he added.

“We have so much to do here behind the scenes and we’re trying our hardest.

“Teams have already got head starts on us with the right recruitment structure.

“They would have been on to players six months ago but we weren’t in that position so we’ve got to play catch-up.

“I’m happy with a little core that I’d like to keep. If I can keep that little core and add quality to it I’ll be very happy.”

Feeney revealed last week that he has already spoken to potential new signings and he says he is being bombarded with lists of players who are available this summer.

“The hard work has already started for next season,” said the Exiles boss. “I’ve been flat out the last 10 days.

“The situation we’re in now it gives me the chance to start fresh.

“There is a lot of work to be done behind the scenes with recruiting and what we’re planning as a club.

“There are so many lists and agents now that I’m speaking to about so many players.

“I got one yesterday with 25 goalkeepers on it and 40 defenders and this is just in League One and League One.

“There are lots out there and I want to get a little bit of business done but obviously with the right player you might have to wait.”
