GERWYN Price faces a grudge match against Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis in the last 16 of the World Matchplay on Tuesday evening.

The 31-year-old from Markham will lock horns with the fourth seed after stunning Kim Huybrechts 10-8 in Blackpool.

The former Cross Keys RFC hooker took the high-quality clash at Winter Gardens before Lewis beat Mark Webster 10-6 and then launched a broadside at Price.

The Welshman stunned the world number four in last year's tournament and 'Jackpot' vowed to get revenge.

"I'll tell you one thing, Gerwyn Price had one lucky game last year, and that was against me. I'll turn him over, no problem," he said.

It led to an entertaining bout of verbal jousting on Twitter with Price, 25th in the world, poking fun at Lewis' body shape when the tie was compared to a boxing match-up.

"Think I'm the only one who would last 12 rounds there, although I think it would be a second round KO," said 'Iceman' Price.

Lewis responded: "He's a big mouth who's never won anything and never will win anything as he's got no respect for anyone."

And on Monday morning Price, relishing the underdog tag, posted: "Win for me is a bonus... A loss for Lewis will now be embarrassing #nopressureonme #imanobody"

The spat will no doubt delight PDC chiefs ahead of the evening encounter with the needle adding intrigue to the reunion.

Before the war of words Price, who has won PDPA Players Championship events in Barnsley and Coventry this year, spoke about how he has developed through playing top players since turning pro in 2014.

"I did well here last year and I was on a positive coming here, and thankfully I came through the game," he said after being Huybrechts. "I'm the underdog in every single game so I'm just going to give it my all.

"I thought I started off pretty well and when I was behind I had to keep going and not let my head drop.

"It was up and down, but when it mattered I was in front. I'm just glad to get through it but I'll have to improve for the next game.

"Playing with these guys week-in, week-out and knowing that you can beat them gives you confidence and you need that in this game; everybody has the talent but you need that two per cent upstairs, and when you've got that it's a much easier game."

Tuesday's action gets under way at 7pm and is on Sky Sports 3 with Price-Lewis last on and the Englishman listed by the bookies as hot favourite at 2/7.
