NEWPORT County AFC defender Paul Bignot is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines over an incident in a match against Cheltenham Town on September 10.

The right-back has been suspended for six matches, fined £600 and warned as to his future conduct following an FA misconduct charge of violent conduct.

It follows an incident around the 45th minute of County’s 2-2 draw with Cheltenham at Rodney Parade.

The charge, which was denied but found proven, was heard on Wednesday, October 26, by the independent regulatory commission.

The sanction is currently set aside, subject to the right of appeal.

The FA has not given any more details of the incident.

The Argus has asked Newport County to comment.
