ABERTILLERY'S Jack Marshman will fight Canada's Ryan Janes in his third UFC bout in Glasgow in July.

The 27-year-old won his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut against Swede Magnus Cedenblad in Belfast in November but suffered a loss against Brazil's Thiago Santos in Novia Scotia in February.

Marshman, who has a 21-6 record in mixed martial arts, will attempt to return to winning ways at the The SSE Hydro on Sunday, July 16 against an opponent who has also won one and lost one.

"I'm very confident with this fight," Marshman said BBC Wales Sport. "I feel I'm going to be a far superior fighter and I can't see myself being troubled by this opponent.

"I had a tough start (in the UFC) but went in and proved that I belong here. I think the UFC are probably thinking 'let's maybe step him back a bit and give him two fights like this', against evenly-matched guys.

"Then if I come through them, I think they'll start bouncing me back towards that top 15 (ranking)."

The UFC announcement about the fight night, which will feature home favourite Paul Craig, said about Marshman-Janes: "Both fighters made promising starts to their respective UFC careers last year and will undoubtedly be looking to taste victory once again, as they set their sights on the UFC's middleweight rankings."

Craig will fight Khalil Rountree in a light heavyweight bout while Bridgewater's Mark Godbeer will take on American Justin Willis at heavyweight.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, June 2 via Ticketmaster.
