EBBW Vale’s Ashley Brace made history last night by becoming the first Welsh female professional fighter to win a title.

The 26-year-old, who trains with Tony Borg at Newport’s St Joseph’s gym, made it six wins out of six in the pro ranks with a ninth-round knockout victory over Hungarian veteran Alexandra Vlajk.

And that ensured that Brace claimed the WBC International bantamweight belt in front of her hometown fans at the Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre.

Meanwhile, former St Joes fighter Joe Cordina marked his professional debut with a fourth-round stoppage win over Jose Aguilar in Liverpool.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist dominated the super featherweight contest from the start.

The 25-year-old is now set to face Liverpool's Jay Carney on the Anthony Joshua's v Wladimir Klitschko bill at Wembley Stadium next Saturday.

Cordina won a bronze for Wales at Glasgow 2014 and is a former European amateur champion.
