NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn has promised more news in the coming days as he continues to build his squad for next season.

Flynn signed up five players today to take his squad to 15 for the 2017-2018 campaign.

Goalkeeper Joe Day and defender Mark O’Brien have signed new two-year deals to stay at the club and striker Marlon Jackson has also committed for another year.

While defender David Pipe and winger Robbie Willmott return to the Exiles on one and two-year contracts respectively.

Flynn also confirmed that coach Wayne Hatswell and first team management consultant Lennie Lawrence have now signed on for next season.

“I’m hoping that we’ll have a few more in the next few days,” said the Exiles boss.

“We’ve got to crack on with other targets that we’re looking at – new faces coming in and hopefully if we get them the fans will be excited.

“The atmosphere in that last game was key to why a few of the boys have signed.

“They created an atmosphere that not many people are going to better in their careers so credit to the fans – you’ve helped me out and thank you very much.

On Hatswell and Lawrence, he said: “It’s done and dusted and to me they’re just as important as the players we’ve signed.

“They’ve both been tremendous with me. We’ve got a really good team together off the pitch and we’re putting one together now off the pitch.”

South Wales Argus:

Midfielder Ben Tozer (above) will be given the chance to play a part next season after falling out with previous manager Graham Westley.

“I’m more than happy to see Ben Tozer at the football club,” said Flynn.

“He’s had his knee op, he’s doing his recuperation now and I’m meeting with him.

“We’ll have a good chat and see where we’re at.

“He’s got another year and it’s a clean slate for everyone.

“Let’s see where we are in pre-season and we’ll take it from there.”

There is no update on the proposed installation of a new hybrid pitch at Rodney Parade by the WRU.

Flynn said: “It’s been said that there’s a Desso pitch going down and I hope there is because I’ve been building the squad on that [promise].”
