FORMER Ebbw Vale head coach Nigel Davies has been made chief executive of newly-crowned Principality Premiership champions Merthyr.

Davies left Eugene Cross Park last week after two years in the Ebbw hotseat, during which time the Steelmen won the league for the first time in their history.

It was reported that Davies would be heading to the Wern to become the Ironmen’s new director of rugby, but instead he will take on a role focussing more on commercial operations.

“Merthyr RFC are delighted to welcome Nigel Davies as new chief executive of the club,” tweeted the Sir Stan Thomas-backed club.

“Nigel will primarily be involved in the commercial side of the business as chief executive and brings a wealth of experience with him.

“We look forward to working alongside Nigel and wish him all the best in his new role.

“There's also been a reshuffle to the coaching team for next season with Dale McIntosh becoming head coach and Lee Jarvis now backs coach.”

Since Ebbw saw Davies depart, Lee Davies has stepped up from forwards coach to take the top job.
