ANDREW Selby set himself up for a crack at the WBC world flyweight crown by comfortably outpointing Nicaragua’s Cristofer Rosales in Cardiff last night.

St Joseph’s-trained Selby won the title eliminator unanimously (117-110, 117-110, 118-109) but he didn’t have things all his own way at the Motorpoint Arena.

The Welshman suffered the first knockdown of his professional career in the opening round as Rosales came flying out of the blocks.

However, after riding the storm, Selby got back to doing what he does best, dazzling with a display full of his usual fast footwork and lightning quick hands.

Elsewhere on the Cyclone Promotions show there was a win on his pro debut for Selby’s St Joes stablemate Fred Evans.

The Olympic silver medallist from London 2012, who is campaigning at super-welterweight in the paid ranks, won every round against game Belgian Najim Fennane.

Ebbw Vale’s unbeaten bantamweight Ashley Brace recorded her seventh straight success, also winning all six rounds in her clash with Croatia’s Nevenka Mikulic.

And another member of the St Joes stable, Gavin Gwynne, took his unblemished record to 6-0 courtesy of a routine points defeat of journeyman Ibrar Riyaz.
