GWENT’S Macey Jones, Isobel Parry-Jones and Tyler Williams were all part of a successful host country team at the Welsh Athletics Outdoor International in Cardiff.

The competition featured regional under-20 teams from England, a Wales under-20 side and a squad representing Welsh Schools.

After a highly competitive match with a number of strong performances, Wales emerged victorious, winning with 132 points.

England South finished seven points back in second, England Midlands were third on 97, England North came fourth and Welsh Schools fifth.

Welshman James Tomlinson was awarded the male athlete of the match after taking the men’s javelin by just under 12 metres.

Mollie O’Sullivan of England South was the winner of the female athlete of the match award after a strong performance in the women’s 1500m.

As for the Gwent athletes, Jones (Cwmbran Harriers) jumped 11.48m to finish second in the women’s triple jump, Williams (Newport Harriers) ran 22.39secs for second in the men’s 200m and Parry-Jones (Cwmbran Harriers) took fourth in the women’s 800m.
