BERNHARD Langer won his third Senior Open title and a record tenth senior major with an imperious victory at Royal Porthcawl.

Langer took the title with a final round of 72 for a four under par winning total of 280, a birdie on the last earning a three-stroke win over Corey Pavin.

The German, who previously won the Senior Open at Porthcawl in 2014 and Carnoustie in 2010, joins Gary Player and Tom Watson as the only players to have won the event three times.

"This place suits my game," said Langer moments after victory.

"It was a very different challenge to three years ago but this is a fantastic test.

"It was a huge challenge with the weather we had, playing long and soft and I am just fortunate to have come out on top.

"I am thrilled to be up here again lifting this beautiful trophy."

Newport's Phillip Price finished five shots behind Langer in a tie for sixth place after a final round score of 70, one under par for the day and one over for the week.
