FRANK Nouble is confident that Newport County AFC can get back to winning ways against Barnet tonight to ensure they stay in touch with the League Two play-off places.

Nouble scored his seventh goal of the season in his 21st appearance on Saturday but County conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at high-flying Accrington Stanley.

The Exiles remain ninth in the table, three points off the top seven, but they have now gone five league games without a win.

Nouble knows they have to end that run as soon as possible if they are to maintain their unlikely play-off push and he’s confident of success against 23rd-place Barnet.

“We need to get a win,” admitted the 26-year-old striker.

“The target really is to stay in and around it until Christmas and then we go again.

“We’re three points off the play-offs now but in this league everyone beats everyone and hopefully we can beat Barnet.

“They won’t be confident and as long as we’ve got the right mentality and deal with them like we did Chesterfield then I’m sure we can get a few goals and a win.”

Matty Dolan returns from suspension but fellow midfielder Joss Labadie is still a doubt as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Defender Mark O’Brien is unlikely to play after aggravating his foot injury at Accrington but Nouble and Padraig Amond, who were also forced off on Saturday, should be fit to play.

“I’ve been struggling with my Achilles for the last two weeks but I’ve just got to keep battling through it and I will be ready to go again,” said Nouble, who now has two in four after ending his 12-game goal drought.

“Hopefully I’m on a scoring run again,” he added.

“I started off quite quickly and then didn’t score for a few games so I’m happy to get another goal and hopefully I can get one against Barnet too.”

Nouble’s strike against Stanley came from a well-worked corner routine.

He was delighted to score from Robbie Willmott’s delivery and, ultimately, pleased with a point at the Wham Stadium despite the disappointment of the hosts’ 88th-minute leveller.

“It was a good finish,” he said of his goal. “We’ve been planning that all season and it’s not come off but I’m happy with it.

“It was frustrating conceding so late but, thinking about it now, it was a good result.

“We’d have taken a point before the game and we worked really hard so we deserved at least a point against a good side.

“We’re happy with the result in the end – it’s another good point and we go again.”
