NEWPORT County AFC captain Joss Labadie has warned Cambridge United that he’s ready to heap more misery on them this afternoon.

Labadie scored both goals in County’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Cambridge at Rodney Parade on December 3.

And the skipper is targeting a repeat performance from him and from the team when they lock horns with the U’s at the Abbey Stadium in League Two today.

“It was a good game for me with two goals,” said Labadie as he recalled the cup clash.

“It was a bit scrappy – a game of few chances – but we did a good job and hopefully we can replicate that.

“They’ll be familiar to us because they’re quite fresh in the memory,” he added.

“But we need to make sure that we apply ourselves right and in the same manner that we did at Rodney Parade and aim to get the three points.

“They’ll be wanting to get their revenge and get one over on us as we did them a couple of weeks ago but we just have to make sure we’re well organised and well prepared.”

South Wales Argus:

Labadie will once again be aiming to get one over on Cambridge boss Shaun Derry, who he played under at Notts County.

“I’ve had Shaun Derry as my manager before so I don’t think he’ll be too happy that I scored,” he said.

“But I’ll try to nick another couple and get three points.

“Everyone has got to chip in with goals because that relieves a bit of the pressure on the strikers,” he added.

“They don’t have to score every game then and that is what midfielders should be doing.

“[Ben] Tozer got one at Swindon, Matty [Dolan] got two last week and I’ve got a few as well so hopefully we can keep it up.”

Labadie is confident that County can avoid a repeat of the defensive mistakes that cost them in last week’s 3-3 draw against Carlisle United and he believes they can maintain their play-off push.

“Carlisle managed to take their chances from our mistakes,” said the midfielder.

“But we showed our fighting spirit and managed to get a draw out of the game and maybe this time last year we wouldn’t have done that so we’ve got to take the positives.

“The progress has been phenomenal and I don’t see why there are any limits on what we can achieve.

“The play-offs are 100 per cent a target.

“We’ve played most of the top teams in the league and, other than Luton, we’ve more than held our own so I don’t see why there’s any reason why we shouldn’t target the play-offs and go for it.

“After Christmas it’s anyone’s and we just need to string a few results together and we’ll be able to stay in there.”
