MICHAEL Flynn admits his Newport County AFC side cannot afford many more defeats if they are to make a late run for the League Two play-offs.

County dropped to 14th in the table after the midweek games and they are now eight points off the top seven with 13 matches remaining.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s trip to Port Vale, Flynn knows that his side need to put a string of victories together.

“We need to win them all,” said the Exiles boss. “If we want to break into the top seven we’ve got to go on a run so, it doesn’t matter if it’s against Port Vale or against Luton, we’ve got to get points on the board because we’ve got some catching up to do.”

County have not won since beating Crawley Town on January 19 when they moved up to fifth in the table – nine points above their opponents.

Harry Kewell’s team have since picked up 15 points out of 18 to climb to ninth – four points above the Exiles.

“You look at what Crawley have done – they’ve put a run together and they’ve done very well,” said Flynn.

“Notts County, on the other hand, are going downwards.

“Anybody can beat anybody in this league and apart from possibly Luton it’s been quite an even league.

“It’s tight margins and we’ve just got to make sure we pick up more wins than the others around us.

“There’s always going to be someone who comes late [into the top seven] and hopefully it can be us.

“But I’m taking it game by game now and we’ve got another tough game at Port Vale.”

Substitute Anton Forrester earned Vale a point with a late equaliser at Rodney Parade in November.

The Valiants are without a win in 2018 and start the day in 19th place – seven points clear of the bottom two.

“They gave us a tough game when they came here and they scored late so they’ve got a never-say-die attitude,” added Flynn.

“They only lost by a small margin – 3-2 – against Swindon last Saturday so it goes to show that they’ve got goals in them.

“It’s going to be a tough game and just because somebody’s in the bottom half it doesn’t mean you’re entitled to go and get three points against them.”
