NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn was frustrated that his side could not convert chances into three points at Port Vale.

County missed several opportunities to earn a first win in nine games but they drew a blank for the fifth match in succession and had to settle for a point at Vale Park.

“I thought we controlled the majority of the game and we had enough clear chances to win two games,” said Flynn.

“We’re just not killing teams off and that’s what has cost us throughout the season.

“I’ll never point the finger at any particular individual but we missed a couple of good chances today.”

Substitute Shawn McCoulsky missed the best chance of the match with nine minutes remaining as he sidefooted wide when unmarked in the box.

“Shawn’s a little bit down in the dressing room but I will never have a go at anybody for missing a chance,” said Flynn.

“It’s when they don’t work hard and don’t apply themselves that I can’t handle but everybody out there put in a shift today."

He continued: “It’s frustrating but it was a lot better performance than we’ve had of late.

“We’ve got a clean sheet and we’ve dominated the game away from home.

“We’re getting back to where we were but we just need to score.

“If we’d scored today we would have won the game. I couldn’t see them scoring and it’s a little bit frustrating that we didn’t kill them off.”

County move to 48 points – matching their total from last season – and they are now nine points below the play-off places with 12 matches remaining.
