THE Dragons are in talks to bring in Wales defence guru Shaun Edwards onto their coaching team.
The rugby league icon has been lined up to join Bernard Jackman’s management on a part-time basis, doing the role in combination with his national duties.
Edwards helped out at Cardiff Blues this season as a defence consultant and would do a similar job with the Rodney Parade region.
The Wiganer has been linked with a number of jobs this summer, notably with Eddie Jones’ England, but is under contract with Wales until next year’s World Cup in Japan.
Jackman is reshaping his backroom staff with a series of appointments – including a new backs coach – set to be announced shortly.
Edwards would come on board alongside Hendre Marnitz, who was appointed last autumn to become the Dragons’ first specialist defence coach.
The South African endured a tough first campaign with the region shipping 94 tries in 21 games while their opponents won with bonus points in the last six fixtures.
