NEWPORT County AFC academy graduate Tom Owen-Evans has joined Scottish Championship side Falkirk on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old midfielder played a big part in County’s Great Escape from relegation in the 2016-2017 season, scoring a memorable goal at St James Park to seal a 1-0 victory against Exeter City.

The Bristol-born midfielder joined County from Bristol City aged 16. He made his Exiles debut in 2015 and enjoyed a successful loan spell at Gloucester City the following year.

Owen-Evans made more than 60 appearances for County and signed a new two-year deal 12 months ago.

But he was restricted to 15 games last season and ended the 2017-2018 campaign on loan at National League South side Truro City.

A club statement said: “Owen-Evans has been a fantastic servant for the club both on and off the pitch and was a fantastic ambassador for the club’s Disabled Supporters Association.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Tom all the best with his future career and wish him and Falkirk FC the best of luck with their upcoming season.”

Falkirk manager, Paul Hartley, said: “I am really pleased to be able to secure a deal with Newport County AFC for the transfer of Tom.

“He is a player who was identified by our head of recruitment, Richard Mitchell, as a target and someone we have worked hard on to bring to the Falkirk Stadium.

“Tom is a young, energetic midfielder who will give us great creativity in attacking areas."
