JOSS Labadie has broken his silence on his future by issuing a statement that appears to confirm that his time as a Newport County player is over.

Labadie is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is continuing his rehabilitation at the club.

The former captain, who is expected to be sidelined until October at the earliest, has been a free agent since his County contract ended on June 30.

Manager Michael Flynn has been unable to persuade the 27-year-old to sign a new deal but he said yesterday that Labadie is “somebody who I would love to see back in the shirt for Newport County.”

That now seems unlikely, however, after Labadie posted a farewell message to Exiles supporters on Twitter this morning.

He wrote: “Just a quick note to the fans of Newport County for the tremendous support they have shown me during my two years at the club, which have been eventful to say the least.

“We’ve shared some memorable moments from the Great Escape to our FA Cup run, which will stay with me forever.

“All the best to the team and manager for the forthcoming season.”
