RHODRI Williams, Ryan Bevington and Brandon Nansen all scored tries on their Dragons debuts as Bernard Jackman’s men eased to an impressive pre-season friendly win in London.

Jackman gave game time to every one of the 27 players, including 11 new faces, to English Championship outfit Ealing.

A number of the summer signings shone on a windy afternoon in the capital, with Joe Goodchild and Brok Harris also crossing, while Josh Lewis and Gavin Henson adding conversions.

The Dragons made the ideal start after a confidence-boosting hit from Ealing old boy Rhys Lawrence and high ball take by Jordan Williams.

There were just over two minutes on the clock when full-back Williams exploited space on the Ealing right, skipper Jack Dixon took the ball on and Goodchild beat the last man to cross.

New fly-half Lewis wasn’t quite able to add the conversion.

The Trailfinders hit back and put together a number of phases inside the visitors’ 22, only to be met by some stout Dragons defence which eventually forced a knock-on.

That resulted in the first scrum of the game, and it didn’t exactly go as the Dragons would have wanted it as the Ealing pack did more than enough to warrant a penalty from referee Wayne Barnes.

The Ealing pressure continued but the Dragons defensive line remained intact, before the visitors finally got some go forward ball.

Lewis so nearly doubled his side’s lead at the end of the first quarter but, having realised his options out wide were limited, couldn’t quite ground the ball as he dived for the whitewash.

The former Steelman was in the action again soon after, taking an up and under on the run well before being unceremoniously dump tackled by Ealing centre Lewis Jones.

The Dragons’ backs hadn’t had much ball to play with in the opening half an hour but scrum-half Rhodri Williams showed he only needs a split second to produce a bit of magic.

Taking possession just inside the Ealing 22, the ex-Bristol man spotted a gap in the home defence and seared his way to the line in the blink of an eye. Lewis converted to make it 12-0.

The score improved to 19-0 thanks to another of the Dragons’ summer signings.

Lewis was the architect with a dummy in midfield and like all good props, Bevington was supporting on his shoulder to cross unopposed. Lewis added the extras again.

The first half wasn’t all plain sailing for Jackman’s men, and he would have been disappointed to concede a try on the stroke of half-time.

It was a somewhat messy build-up but Jones squeezed in at the corner.

It got better for the hosts immediately after the restart as they closed the gap to 19-12.

Again, it was a scrappy phase of play that resulted Ealing’s second score, with the Dragons not doing enough to prevent replacement Craig Willis touching down. Pete Lydon kicked the conversion.

Jackman then chose to ring the changes with seven following the three at half time.

One of those interval replacements, Harris, showed he’s still got a bit of speed in his legs, sprinting clear to score following good work to dislodged the ball from the Ealing nine.

The Dragons certainly weren’t finished there and they added a fifth try courtesy of Pacific Islander Nansen.

The second row hit the ball hard from close range and took a couple of men over with him for Henson to convert.

Neither side bossed the last quarter as a few errors crept into the game.

It looked like staying at 31-12 until former Dragons winger Will Harries was on the end of a floated pass to dot down in the corner.
