COLIN Charvis is set to carry on with Newport Gwent Dragons - but in a role which has yet to be decided.

Wales' most capped forward, who captained the Dragons last season, has actually turned up at pre-season training since it resumed last week.

But it is believed that Charvis, now 35, probably won't remain at Rodney Parade purely as a player. He has been offered a part-time contract as a defence coach with the possibility of playing on.

Charvis is now considering the offer and the Dragons expect an answer soon. But the fact that he has been at pre-season training after a holiday is an encouraging sign.

It could well be that he augments the Dragons coaching staff of Paul Turner, Leigh Jones and Dai Rees with special responsibility for defence involving him a couple of days a week plus match days.

The Dragons are also waiting to hear from Marc Stcherbina and Cardiff Blues about the possibility of a loan deal for the coming season.

Again, the chances are considered fairly bright. The Dragons need a sizeable player in the middle, especially now that Paul Emerick has joined Beziers and Stcherbina, a former Australia A and Northampton player, fits the bill.

New Zealand pair Tom Willis and James Arlidge are due to arrive at Rodney Parade this month to take up their two-year contracts.

Arlidge is still playing for Japan, qualifying by residence, in the Pacific Nations Cup. He has one game left this weekend against Samoa and is second in the points scoring charts with 45.

Meanwhile, there is still no decision on a new team manager for the Dragons in succession to Jim McCreedy, who brought his long association in that role at Rodney Parade to an end after last season, though he could still remain as a member of the board.

More good news for the Deragons then, we need the likes of Colin committing to the region - what ever his role, he'll be an asset!!

Aye, will be great news if he does stay on in a player/coach capacity. Stcherbina will be a decent signing but still think we could do with a winger too.

I care as I travel over 200 miles to watch a game! Albeit my wife and friends think I'm bonkers in doing so...especially considering recent form. It's good to see bit of ambition from the Parade.

Listen fella you're obviously a Troll and doing your best to provoke an argument, because thats the only way you get your jollys, whilst hiding behind the anonimity of a discussion board as you're a chicken-sh*t too afraid to do enter into debate person to person.

Which shows you up for the bigot you are quite nicely. People like you give Wales a bad name, churning out garbage on websites then clamouring to the Millenium with your knickers round your ankles any time there's a whiff of a trophy. Get a life.

It is a great relief to all concerned that he loathes Newport. Long may his exile continue. I never knew they played rugby in the Albert Hall mind. That bit was interesting.
