FOR the third week in succession it was all change at the top of Division One of the Thomas, Carroll Welsh Club Cricket Conference as leaders Lisvane lost to Hopkinstown, second- placed Newbridge lost at Upper Rhondda and Cardiff defeated Pontymister to go back on top of the table.

Number three batsman Craig Roberts led the way for Upper Rhondda with a superb 101 and opener Steve Worrall made 41 in their score of 198-6. Lee Tyler mopped up the tail for Newbridge with 3-6.

Only Jonathan Westwood (52 n.o) could find any form for Newbridge as they limped to 165-9, with Dan Moore taking 3-36 for Upper Rhondda and Steve Webb 2-29.

Pontymister made 196-8 at home to Cardiff with Mo Asif getting 54, Umar Fawad 33, Daniel Jones 27 and Nick Madden 23.

Elian Jones took 2-30 for Cardiff, Matthew Preece 2-37 and Dustin Aylmore 2-42.

Opener Ewan Thomas went for 45 when Cardiff batted but second- wicket pair Andy Ingles (65 n.o) and Richard Meggitt (44 n.o) saw them home by nine wickets.

Dean Butler made a fine 65 out of Cefn Fforest’s total of 142 all out at home to Abercynon, for whom Ryan Lowe took 2-14, Craig Hawkins 2-23, Singh 2-29 and Matt Taylor 2-36.

Lowe then top-scored with 28 when Abercynon went in but good bowling by David Griffith (4-30), Matthew Haggerty (2-14), Ceri Thomas (2-21) and Tony Birt (2-30) got them all out for 101.

Tredegar could only manage 119 all out at Llantwit Fardre with Callum Herring making 30 and Lee Herring 22.

Gareth Jones took 4-27 for Fardre, rugby international Geraint Lewis 3-10 and Chris Garwood 2-20.

Lewis cracked a fine 51 before getting out and leaving Stuart Clarke (27 n.o) and Jones (24 n.o) to take Fardre to a nine-wicket win.

The top-of-the-table game in Division Two between Pontypool neighbours Pentwyn and Pontnewynydd went the way of second-placed Pontnewynydd, who went in first and reached 190 all out.

Rhodri Jones scored 36, Owen Price 28 and both Geraint Jones and Lloyd Davies got 22. For leaders Pentwyn, captain John-Paul Rosser took 3-29 and Sam Saunders 3-36.

Gavin White got 36 in the Pentwyn innings and Nathan Probert 27, but Joe Matthews took 3-27 for Pontnewynydd, Geraint Jones 2-25, Price 1-32 and Gareth Bustin took the last two wickets in successive balls as the leaders managed 151 all out.

Struggling Abercarn scored 167-5 going in first against visitors Great Western with Andrew Mills making 48, Ian Hopkins 38, his brother Steve 35 not out and Peter Haynes 27 not out.

The Railwaymen were up for the chase, however, and replied with 170-4 thanks to Kevin Williams (74) and Clive Rees (37). Mills had 3-44 for Abercarn.

Phil Jenkins made 75 not out as Cross Keys chased down the Christchurch score of 176-7 (Paul Morgan 63) while Dinas Powys overcame Whitchurch Heath by three wickets to halt their downward slide and Pencoed accounted for St Fagans III by 87 runs.

Bottom club in Division Three Pontllanfraith saw visitors top-of-the-table Llantwit Major Cavaliers accumulate a massive 321-4 led by the amazing Ed Pickford (116) with yet another century.

Shane Callard scored 66 not out and James Huxtable 39 not out, while for Pontllanfraith, Owen Davies took 2-58 in eight overs.

Paul Cooke got 40 for Pontllanfraith, Gareth Thomas 27 and Brian Nolan 21 but they finished on 163-7 as Neil Pritchard took 3-14 in seven overs and Julian Griffiths returned 10-3-36-3.

Second-placed Abertillery dismissed visitors Caerleon for 122 with Simon Nistala getting 20 and Jamie Evans 19. John Davies took 4-20 for Abertillery off 10 overs, Gareth Price 2-16, Steve Flay 2-30 and Matthew Rossiter 2-44.

Mark Seymour (48 n.o) and Adam Poole (29) knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets.

Blaengarw reached 181 all out at home to Crumlin with Mike Huntley making 40, Paul James 39, Tom Davies 25 and James Hardwick 24. Dominic Green took 2-33 off seven overs for Crumlin, Gareth Davies 3-14 and Nigel Green 2-30.

Opener Simon Veal made 81 and Matt Veal 23 but Crumlin collapsed to 119 all out as Huntley took 5-33 off eight overs, Steve Dent 3-43 off 10 and Hardwick 2-22 off seven.

Llanarth totalled 147-9 against Newport III with Mark Baxter making 31 and Simon Wharton 30. Dave Jones took 3-34 off eight overs for Newport III, Matt Jones 2-28 off eight and Jack Scarr 2-27 off eight.

Dave Nowell then led his side to a seven-wicket win with a superb 65 not out helped by Gareth Alred (27) and Pete Yon (22).

Ed Sherriff (112 n.o) and Anthony Barrett (63 n.o) led Division Four leaders Barry Wanderers to 272-2 at home to Girlings-Croesyceiliog III, who could only manage 124 in their reply.

Owen Jones scored 31, while for the Wanderers Andrew Fenton took 3-24 off six overs, Aled Hughes 2-5 off two and Peter Beckett 2-18 off six.

Monkswood’s young guns led the way with 15-year-old Matt Malsom making 87, 16-year-old Mike Watkins 64 and 14-year-old Mike Jones 38, and with Rod Jones getting 30, Monskwood made 245-5 at home to Mountain Ash.

The Old Firm replied with 160-9 and Owen Roberts made 86 of those as Tim Probert took 3-28 for Monkswood, Watkins 3-50 and Malsom 2-17.

Second-placed Bridgend Town III amassed 303-6 at home to Chepstow III with Brendan Joubert making 92, Will Spreadbury 91 and Evan Stanton 48. Jeremy Stead took 3-50 off 10 overs for Chepstow III.

Aaron Jones scored 40 in the Chepstow innings and Tom Huggett 38 but they were 150-9 at the close. Spreadbury took 4-14 off five overs for Bridgend Town III and Andrew Jones 2-38 off 10.

Brian Gumm was top scorer for Panteg III with 49 not out in their score of 89 all out at Bedlinog in the Alliance Division One.

Ashley Rowlands took 4-28 for Bedlinog and Dean Cadwallader 3-11. Lyn Jones (21 n.o) and John Maidment (19) then led Bedlinog to 92-4.

Huw Kear (3-8) and Peter Mason (3-16) helped dismiss St Peters for just 48 and got the runs for the loss of four wickets as Paul Backhouse took 3-14 for the Rocks.

Rhys Howell made 74 and Steve Hole 46 in Wenvoe’s 192-7 with Kathy Taylor returning a fine 10-6-26-2 for Sudbrook III.

Sudbrook III could only get 74 in their innings as Owen Francis took 4-22 and Haydn Dawson 2-11.

The top-of-the-table battle between leaders Undy & Magor and second-placed Maesycwmmer was a low-scoring game with the Rhondda side getting 125-8 with Kevin Lister making 48 not out and Lyn Cadwallader taking 3-22 for Undy & Magor.

Phil Kyte (37) and Richard Davies (24) led Undy & Magor to 126-7 with Lister taking 3-18 for Maesycwmmer and John Wright 3-31.
