LOCK Luke Charteris insists Newport Gwent Dragons haven’t had to rip up the plan and start all over again in their bid to get their season up and running against Glasgow tomorrow.

The Dragons welcome the Scottish outfit to Rodney Parade on the back of a 40-17 Magners League humbling at Connacht a week ago.

It was a performance that led to the squad copping a lot of flak and the Wales lock admits it is all deserved.

However, the 27-year-old who leads the Dragons in the absence of injured Tom Willllis emphasises it was just one defeat and that the solution is a simple one – cut out the daft errors.

“We sat down in the changing room and I just said we embarrassed ourselves and that we had to take all the abuse that the media, fans and coaching staff would give us,” he said.

“We deserve it and have take it on the chin this week, now we need to put things right.

“As embarrassing as the defeat was, I don’t think there was anything structurally wrong. There were individual errors and we have to make sure they don’t happen again.

“It is not often that you get beaten by that score and the game plan and structure was all right.

“You would think there would be a great deal to work on after a defeat like that but there really isn’t apart from cutting out those individual errors.”

It is a timely return to Rodney Parade for the Dragons but Charteris, who is inching back towards full fitness from a neck injury, is not concerned about venues.

The lock would make a poor Question of Sport contestant with his lack of concern for whether it’s home or away.

“We got a good run going at Rodney Parade when we had a great crowd behind us but I think too much is made of this home and away factor,” he said.

“It’s the same size pitch, with the same 15 boys so it shouldn’t have that effect. If we make too much of a thing about the home fortress then it almost makes it harder when we go away.

“But the fans will let us know their opinion if we perform like that this week. We’re a much better team than we showed in Galway but you can’t get away with that as a professional.”

However, Charteris will return to the Rodney Parade routine, one that the Dragons have done four times over the last two years against Glasgow.

They will double up against the Scots after being drawn in the same Heineken Cup group yet again but Europe is not on the Dragons’ minds this week.

“We know Glasgow well and honours have been pretty even against them,” said Charteris.

“But this won’t have any impact on the Heineken Cup, it’s a league game and there are four or five points up for grabs.

“We need to make up for our losing start and this week is about getting those points.”
