THE second round of the County Motors Challenge Cup produced some interesting results.

Third Division newcomers Trevethin returned from Cwmbran Park with a 4-2 victory over First Division Coed Eva Athletic Gavin Rogers, Dean Lewis, Kevin Rogers, and Dwain Hunt, being the goalscorers.

At Kimberley Park Albion Rovers eased into the next round, defeating fellow First Division Cwmmfrwdoer Sports 7-1, Mark Millinship, and John Lillygreen, two apiece Michael Williams, Jonathan Titley, and substitute Gareth Southan being the markesmen.

At Ringland Park 12 goals were scored when Spencer Youth & BC defeated Rogerstone AFC 8-4 with goals from Chris Bickerton, a brace Chris Edwards, Kieron Porter, Dale Cooke, Darren Poultney, and substitutes Josh Burrows and Gary Tovey, all within the 90 minutes.

At the Bowling Green AC Pontymister needed extra time to defeat Cefen Fforest AFC. It ended 3-3 after 90 minutes, then 6-3 after extra time. Thomas Pratt (2), Rhys Cleere, Michael Howe, Neirun Davies and Dave Cleere scored.

PILCS FC scored five without reply through Daniel Ronan, and Richie Jeremiah, two apiece and Darren Phillips, when entertaining Mardy AFC.

Pill AFC defeated fellow Third Division Underwood Athletic SC 4-1 with goals from substitute James West, a brace Rico Zulkarnian, and Tristan Chambers. At Llanfabon Drive Third Division Lucas Cwmbran defeated Second Division Trethomas Bluebirds by the odd goal in three Jamie Arnold, and substitute James Lloyd the markesmen.

A close encounter at Ebbw Vale saw First Division Chepstow Town scrape home against Second Division RTB by a single goal scored by Mathew Owen.

Another one goal affair was seen at the Causway, the all First Division tie between Undy Athletic and Clydach Wasps, James Barnes the goalscorer after a mistake by the Clydach goalkeeper.

First Division Lliswerry FC returned from Monmouth with a three goal victory over Third Division Rockfield Rovers Substitute Rhys Luffman (2) and Dave Jones the goalscorers.

Alex Stewart, John Howie, and Chris Jones scored the goals to send Malpas United through at fellow Third Division Race AFC. Trinant AFC went through 2-1 when entertaining Sudbrook Cricket Club, Jamie Cottrell and Mike Whitlock scoring. Panteg AFC returned from Marshfield with a 4-2 win Jon Butcher, a brace Gavin Millar, and James Wilkins the markesmen.

Two First Division games were played. Govilon AFC went to the top of the table after their 3-0 home victory over Abertillery Excelsiors, Dean Morgan, a brace, and Jamie Laurent the goalscorers. Blaenavon Blues and Pentwynmawr Athletic fought out a goaless draw.

In the FAW Welsh Cup Second Division Fleur-de-Lys Welfare’s magnificent run has come to an end after they were defeated 3-1 visiting Welsh League First Division Goytre United. But they were not outplayed by their more illustrious opponents and have done this league and Gwent Football proud.
