NEWPORT Gwent Dragons deservedly beat the Ospreys tonight in their first ever away win at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium.

A wonder try by the superb Dragons No 8 Toby Faletau put the visitors 8-3 up just before the interval.

Scrum-half Wayne Evans scored a second half touchdown in a game played in heavy rain.

And an assured performance by outside-half Jason Tovey, who scored 11 points from three penalties and a conversion, saw them home.

The Dragons were full value for their historic victory against a poor Ospreys side badly missing their Wales internationals.

It was the Dragons’ first win on the road in nearly a year.

Their previous away victory came against Edinburgh in the Magners League on November 1, 2009.

It wasn't a classic game by any means but the delighted Dragons and their fans will scarcely care after a trademark gutsy display.

Faletau, still only 19, had an exceptional game and his try came after good work by Gavin Thomas put the Wales Under-20s player into space 35 metres out.

Having plenty to do, he stormed home, handing off Ospreys fullback Gareth Owen and shrugging off the tackle of former Dragons winger Richard Fussell to score in the corner.

Faletau said: “I didn’t expect to be in the space I was in and I just went for it.

“We haven’t won here before, so tonight really means a lot.”

The impressive Evans darted over from a ruck in the 62 minute to put the Dragons into a lead which they didn’t surrender after Owen brought the Ospreys back into the game with a try straight after half-time.

Evans said: “We played out hearts out tonight. Having Toby back from injury has made a big difference to us, especially going forward, and it’s great to have Tovey return.”

The other Ospreys points came from an Owen penalty and outside-half Dai Flanagan's two penalties and a conversion.
