NEWPORT County chairman Chris Blight has given his backing to the revamped Supporters’ Trust, insisting the initiative is vital to the growth of the club.

The Newport County AFC Supporters’ Trust has set up a new website at ncafctrust.org enabling fans to join online for £10.

Membership has now reached 500 and Blight is supportive of the move, although he added that the Trust would need to attract a significantly higher number of people to have any real effect.

“There are two types of club that seem to get promoted to the Football League,” said Blight.

“There are those with sugar daddies like Fleetwood and Crawley and those with strong supporters’ trusts like AFC Wimbledon.

“The future of this club is an increase in fans and I would urge everybody to join the Trust.

“Personally, I’m all for it because we just don’t have a queue of people waiting outside to invest in this club.

“But at the moment with 500 members it is not enough.

“You need 2,000 to 3,000 people to be a strong group and I would say if you are not a member then get signed up because every penny counts.

“I would love to see the Trust being a big part of this club.”
