Newport's Fred Evans books Olympic gold medal bout

NEWPORT'S Fred Evans is three rounds from Olympic gold after beating Ukrainian world champion Taras Shelestyuk in tonight's welterweight contest.

The ExCel Arena echoed to shouts of 'Freddie' as the home supporters got behind the St Joseph's trained boxer who won 11-10.

He now awaits the final contest on Sunday afternoon to decide who will wear the gold medal.
