ARGUS columnists Dave Harrison and Will Bragg are gearing up for their two-day charity bike ride.

The Glamorgan pair will be part of a 27-strong peleton cycling from Cardiff to London for the Tom Maynard Trust next week.

Analyst Harrison and batsman Bragg will be leaving the Swalec Stadium on Monday and arriving at the Oval on Tuesday – in time to see Glamorgan take on Surrey in the CB40.

Tom’s father Matthew, former Glamorgan and England batsman and coach, will be leading the way with fellow former internationals Andrew Flintoff, Steve James and Jamie Dalrymple in his slipsteam. Harrison hopes that he and Bragg, who does not feature in one-day cricket, will benefit from the hard graft put in already on the roads of Gwent.

“I felt it was appropriate for somebody from Glamorgan to participate in this challenge, especially as Tom was a close friend,” said Harrison.

“Training has been challenging with numerous miles being churned out through the picturesque towns of Caerleon, Llangybi and Usk… with the odd stop for light refreshment!

“I think it’s going to be a tough ride physically but also emotionally with so many people turning out to support the fund in the memory of Tom.

“I would like to thank X-Trail cycles in New Inn for their help with servicing my bike and also showing me how to change a tyre!

“The response from everyone has been amazing and I can only thank the people who have kindly sponsored me, although most of the boys in the squad will only hand over the money when I complete it!”

Tom died in June after being struck by a train in London.

The aim of the trust is to help aspiring and disadvantaged crickets through bursaries, training and education.
