Braintree 1 County 2

NEWPORT County AFC fought back from a goal down to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Blue Square Bet Premier season at Braintree Town.

After a dour first half, Justin Edinburgh's side looked to be heading for their first defeat of the campaign when Brad Quinton gave the hosts the lead on 53 minutes.

But a fabulous 25-yard strike from Max Porter, which went in off the post and bar, changed the game.

The Exiles surged forward looking for a late winner and defender Ismail Yakubu was in the right place at the right time to convert substitute Lee Evans' free-kick with five minutes remaining.

That goal ensures County remain top of the table and the only side with a perfect record and a crowd of more than 5,000 is expected when fellow pace-setters Hereford Town come to Rodney Parade on Tuesday night.

For a moment there I thought we might lose it. But fantastic County did'nt give up, and that makes all the difference. Well done lads great fight back. We can't expect the County to win them all, there will be losses along the way, but at least this season we have a team with spirit. Played 4 won 4 somebody pinch me. this is great stuff from the lads.

I think that full-time training told in the end against the part-timers.
