NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh claimed summer signing Danny Crow had finally shown what he’s all about after opening his account with two goals in their 3-0 win at Barrow to send his side back top of the Blue Square Bet Premier, writes Andrew Graham.

Lee Evans’ smart turn and rifled finish a minute before the break gave County the lead before Crow netted two in seven minutes after the interval to wrap up the points.

With 20 minutes to go Crow spotted Danny Hurst off his line and sublimely chipped him from 40 yards before prodding in Andy Sandell’s inswinging corner.

County were awarded a penalty four minutes from time and Sandell handed over spot-kick duties, but Crow fluffed his hat-trick chances by blazing over.

But despite the miss Edinburgh was still adamant Crow had laid down a marker.

“Danny Crow hasn’t been getting the headlines in recent weeks but he showed what he can do,” said Edinburgh.

“I’m delighted he got off the mark. His first must have been from 40 yards – what a goal to make it 2-0! After that he got a little poke-in for his second, which was fantastic.

“I won’t say anything about his penalty – although the ball is probably still on its way out of the ground.

“Andy Sandell is our penalty-taker but I can understand why he gave the ball to Danny, it should have been his hat trick.

“That’s the third time he’s missed a penalty that would have given him a hat trick so I suppose we take the ball off him now.

“It is great to be top again. We have produced a lot of good play in our last two games but not got what we deserved. That was put right and people will show us a lot of respect.

“We were magnificent. We played some excellent stuff and thoroughly deserved our victory.”
