BLACKWOOD’S Bradley Dredge admits he has plenty of work to do before heading to Scotland for the Dunhill Links despite a solid four days in Italy.
The 39-year-old, twice a winner on the European Tour, pocketed a cheque for €18,720 after finished tied for 17th in the BMW Italian Open at the weekend.
He carded rounds of 67, 69, 70 and 68 to finish on 14 under, although that was ten shots off winner Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
“Overall I could not complain about the way I played over four days and my putting is certainly improving but I now have two weeks off before the Dunhill Links and know I have a lot of work to do,” said Dredge.
“Making a bogey at the first hole in the final round in Turin was not the started I wanted to secure a sizeable cheque.
“After that I did not play too badly making five birdies and eventually signing for a 68.
“But finishing at 14 under par on the Royal Park One Roveri course where the winner’s score was even lower than Robert Rock’s 21 under in 2011 put me nowhere near the top ten finish I was seeking.”
Dredge will hope to fare better at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingbarns between October 4 and 7 as he bids to secure another Tour card.
The top 115 in the rankings are guaranteed a card and he sits in 123rd spot. Newport’s Phillip Price, who shot ten under in Italy to finish tied for 46th, looks safe in 91st.
