IN the Gwent Bridge Club mixed team competition the foursome of Kate Walker, Margaret Van de Weyer, John Walker and Hugh Green came out on top in a closely fought contest.
The Gwent Friday Lea-gue is now under way with ten teams competing.
There are some very strong and experienced teams taking part and after the first round the team of Peter Smith, Marion She-well, Greg Howell, Brian Harden and Elizabeth Hutchinson narrowly top the league.
The Stan Berger Pairs event takes place at the Gwent Bridge Academy on Sunday, followed by the EWBA (restricted teams) event for the Julius Ernst Trophy on Friday, October 5.
The latter event is open to all EWBA members below regional master.
Entries for either event should be submitted to secretary Bill Parkinson.
Evening sessions continue to attract large numbers, with more than 50 regularly taking part on Thursdays. Anita Freeman and June Owen currently top the Masterpoint Chart.
