CHRIS KIRWAN SAYS: Bedwas proving the doubters wrong

A QUICK glance at the Premiership table would force many to do a double take.

The presence of Pontypridd, Llandovery, Llanelli and Cross Keys isn’t a surprise – they all enjoyed fine campaigns in 2011-12 and boast strong squads.

Keys in particular have shown commendable spirit to come firing back after a drubbing at the hands of champions Ponty on opening day.

With plenty of big guns to come back from injury the Pandy Park outfit must have high hopes of a place in the play-offs for the first time.

But among all the usual suspects is little old Bedwas, who endured a shocking 2011-12.

It forced them to have a summer rethink and the results have been terrific.

They’ve won four out of five and their solitary loss at Sardis Road yielded a bonus point.

They have always been a tough outfit up front but have added some guile behind with the likes of Dragons young gun Jack Dixon, Matthew John and Ross Wardle, with Richard Powell pulling the strings.

Bedwas’ place the revamped Premiership raised a few eyebrows and they were an easy target for many.

It’s early days but they’re answering those doubters in the best way possible.
