READY TO RUMBLE: Stephen Foster, left, and Newport's Gary Buckland
BRITISH super featherweight champion Gary Buckland could lose everything he’s worked so hard for tomorrow, but he’s only worried, as ever, about younger brother Mitchell.
The 26-year-old, who trains at Tony Borg’s St Josephs gym, takes centre stage tonight at the Manchester Arena, chief support as Ricky Hatton makes his long awaited comeback to the sport.
Buckland defends his title against dangerous, come forward fighter Stephen Foster knowing that victory will set him on the road to a guaranteed shot at the European title.
However, Buckland isn’t worried, insisting his only concern is Mitchell who fights earlier in the night.
"I honestly spend far more time worrying about my brother than I do about myself, I’ll make sure I sneak out the dressing room to watch him fight," he said.
"We aren’t the only brothers ever to share a bill but it’s an unusual situation and you do worry."
Buckland is confident that the fight will go his way, especially after a 15-week training camp.
"I’m in great shape and raring to go, I’ve had sparring with the likes of Gavin Rees and Lee Selby and I’m looking forward to the fight as I feel we have styles that will compliment each other very well," he said.
"It’s European next for me if I get the job done so there can be no slip-ups. I respect Stephen Foster but by the same token I’m very confident of victory."
