FORMER Commonwealth champion Bradley Pryce challenges Lee Markham for his British Masters Gold super-middleweight title at London’s York Hall tonight.

The 33-year-old from Newbridge, now trained by Cwmbran’s Jamie Arthur, has lost six of his last eight bouts but he’s still confident that he can claim another title before hanging up his gloves.

Pryce hasn't held any belt since losing his Commonwealth light-middleweight title to Matthew Hall in March 2009 but he’s confident of victory tonight and is still targeting a British or Commonwealth title tilt at light-middle.

Markham has just one defeat on his 12-fight record but Pryce will be his most experienced opponent so far and he is not expecting an easy night.

“I respect Bradley for everything he has done in boxing and this will be no easy fight,” said the 26-year-old Essex fighter.

In contrast Pryce admits he knows little about Markham and he expects to win.

“I’ve only seen about 20 seconds of him on YouTube,” said Pryce.

“That’s not because I’m disrespecting him it’s just because I’m not a boxing fan.

“I don’t watch boxing so I don’t really study opponents.

“I’ll get in the ring and fight anyone but I don’t sit down and watch boxing on the weekend. Watching and studying it is not for me.

“Jamie Arthur has studied Markham; that’s his job and he’ll make sure we’ve got the tactics spot on.

“There’s no good him looking at my fights either because he’ll probably think he’s got an easy night’s work,” he added.

“The last few fights have been terrible but that’s fighting on a day’s notice.

“I’ve had plenty of notice for this one and it’s going to be a win.”

Pryce’s last victory was at York Hall against Michael Lomax in June 2013 and he fancies a repeat tonight.

“The last time I boxed at York Hall I brought a good following and I feel that pressure again this time because I want to give my followers a good show and perform well,” he said.

“I haven’t come here to lose on points, I want to win and I’m confident I can beat this guy.

“The 20 seconds I saw on YouTube didn’t frighten me. I looked at it and thought this isn’t going to be much of a problem.

He added: “There’s still a title in there for me, whether it’s a British or Commonwealth but it’s going to be at light-middle.”
